YOUR CHOICE// Smokey and the Bandit 1970's

For my 70's film I chose the film Smokey and the Bandit, and the quote "What we are dealing with here is a complete lack of respect for the law." referring to the Bandit of course. The bandit drives a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, which I have found a good hi-res image of here.

I have decided that the theme I developed with the mustang from Bullitt will continue throughout the series. I will colour the windows, wheels and grill of the cars black. On top of this here I have added the famous firebird decal and indicator lights to this list. I've also added the Trans Am text to this drawing as will as the engine size on the engine intake.

I added this southern flag to the design but I feel that this is too much orange for now, also It could be confused with the flag from the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazard.

After seeing what the flag would look like behind the car I ditched it completely and added a mock American flag, hung upside down, so symbolise the Banditry of 'The Bandit'. I prefer this much more, it gives the image some depth. The stars also work with the Americana feel of the film itself.

Following the Americana theme I used a series of heavy and western fonts to visualise the quote. I also added some road lines to the work so the car isn't just floating in empty space.

After messing with the colours and splashing some more stars to underline the text I came to a conclusion for this poster. I hoped that it could pick up some of the trashy southern Americana of the film, with a pretty shameless muscle car, stars and western type I think this design fits that.
