Today I continued with my second DPS for the climbing magazine. The first page on the left is a general introduction to climbing El Cap with some history and inspirational words ect. The second page to the right has some colour photographs taken from various locations around Yosemite National Park and the text basically describes the park itself, again with some history and riveting geographical information.
Its clear form these images that I want the magazine to look fairly professional and clean. I suppose the trouble is that I don't want to all to look boring also. At the moment with the photos and the text layout this way it looks like any old travel mag.
Here I fiddled around with the layout on the second page. I'm not changing the first for now because I like all of the negative space. This is no improvement in my opinion, The text and image is slightly unbalanced here so the first layout is better.
Finally I found that compressing the images together was a good way to stop the page looking like a school project. I saw this in some passing magazine this morning and thought I could apply this here. It sits with the text much better in my opinion creating to blocks of mass on the page and fitting in the grid nicely.
