Alphabet Soup Part 1. 10 Letter G.
Ok so here are 10 'G's' all in 15x15cm format. All should represent the word 'pop' in one way or another. I found the task hard at first but once I had finished the first one I found ideas came more naturally. The research I carried out (documented in the design context blog) helped me massively, especially the videos/ animation. At some stage I would love to digitally alter the designs to improve their general aesthetics and add some colour. However I suppose the lack of colour meant I couldn't fall back on it to relay my ideas, instead I had to focus entirely on the line and image to convey the word 'POP'.

Alphabet Soup Part 1. Intitial Research
Here are some "G's" i have decided to use as starting points for a collection of letters which symbolically represent the action word "POP". I have chosen 'G' because it is a versatile letter which can take many forms, so i have a lot of room for experimentation.

OUGD 401: How To "How to Deal With The Walk To College" Final Map Design
Here is the final design for the map. We added more handwritten descriptive text. The text has been labeled to correspond with the 'obstacles' that would be encountered on the walk into LCA.
This brief was a challenge for the group. Most of us had never really experimented with hand-drawn design before so we started the project way out of our comfort zone. However this was good because we really did experiment and i personally discovered many new techniques that could improve future work, for example techniques surrounding editing hand drawn images in Photoshop.
The major problem i find with the map is that it has absolutely no order or sensible composition. I think this problem arose when we slapped the route down on the screen without really thinking about how anything else will fit around it.
Saying this i do really love the content of the map, its fun to look at all the small details and read the descriptions, which are very appealing aspects. I just wish we had finished the content before starting the map so we could have worked out a proper composition which really would have improved the final outcome.

OUGD 401: How To "How to Deal With The Walk To College" Front Cover
Here is the front cover design for the folded map. It runs on the same colour scheme as the map and follows the hand-drawn style. there is a space in the top left for the address.
OUGD 401: How To "How to Deal With The Walk To College" First Draft
When we all got to college this morning we admitted to each-other that we all had some major concerns in regards to the colour scheme:
So we developed a new scheme based on a pastel colour screen print style;
Here we have also added a lot more imagery and text. This is not the finished article, we still intend to add some descriptive text to the large blank space (top left), and fill in one or two other gaps on the map.

OUGD 401: How To "How to Deal With The Walk To College" Design Sketching

OUGD 401: How To "How to Deal With The Walk To College"
Is the map an appropriate form of delivery? Yes
Is the design to complicated? (not clear) No, somebody said they enjoyed seeing it
Do you think we have addressed our problem? Yes
Do the colours work well? Yes, they preferred them to the initial colours before we changed them
Is the route clear? Yes, they said road names would only add to confusion.
Action Plan:
